PLAYING and learning go hand in hand in a project aimed at building a happy life for Braybrook children.
The state government-funded Braybrook Project is linking families with playgroups and education as well as health and council services in the area.
An expo on Thursday highlighted ways the services can help break the poverty cycle and give young people the best possible start.
Maribyrnong mayor John Cumming said access to the right services in the early years could improve results at school. "Current studies show some Braybrook students struggle in the early years of primary school. The Braybrook Project aims to teach parents how play-based learning can improve the literacy and learning of their pre-school children."
Three bilingual early years educators are working with African, Vietnamese and Chin children through bilingual storytime and community gatherings.
The project finishes at the end of June.
