Hilarious Taiwanese spoof on election

21 Aug, 2010 08:04 PM
The Taiwanese "news" service, which first attracted notoriety with its spoof animation about the infamous car crash that sent Tiger Woods' career into freefall, has struck again - this time with a wacky, but unnervingly real take on Australia's election.

The light-hearted 96-second 3D video is a snapshot of the turbulent 33 month Labor reign, which started with the election in November 2007 of Kevin Rudd.

It charts his initial huge run of popularity, with Rudd dreaming high above the clouds.

It shows how the failure of Labor to deliver an emissions trading scheme, and the ill-fated attempt to impose a mining tax, combined to cruel Rudd's favour in the electorate - and set in train the events that saw him killed off by backroom party leaders.

In an hilarious, but disturbingly accurate portrayal, the clip depicts Opposition Leader Tony Abbott as a bare-chested fitness fanatic who brandishes a gun to deter boat people from landing on Australian shores. But while the narrator says Abbott has been extremely popular, it shows a Greens supporter emerging in a wrestling ring to help Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the mock electoral fight.

In the end, it declares the contest is too close to call - much to the chagrin of beer-swilling Australian voters, who toss beer cans on a defenceless Crocodile Harry, who last week had to choose between two pieces of meat under the banner of each leader.
