Labour the point with big children's event

24 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM
WESTERN Suburbs Triathlon Club will hold its third annual children's triathlon on the Labour Day holiday.

WSTC president Jeff Bunting said the club aimed to attract 300 children to participate in three different age levels ranging from ages seven to 12.

"It's more of a fun event than a race.

"They don't have races as such for that age group. To see the kids' smiling faces when they cross the line is unbelievable."

The WSTC wants to attract record numbers.

The club hopes by giving the children a taste of the modified triathlon from a young age, some will take up the sport in their teenage years.

Meanwhile, the WSTC will hold its fourth race of the season on Sunday at the Altona Life Saving Club in Altona. Local Chris Munro has had placings in the opening three races. There are two races remaining for the summer.
