FOOTSCRAY Bulldogs head into a new Victorian Rugby Union season with a familiar face at the helm. Club president Wayne Hunt has taken over the coaching reins from his son Troy.
Troy will cross the divide and play Aussie rules this winter with Caroline Springs in the Western Region Football League.
Hunt will coach the team alongside Junior Naufahu and Leni Tui. He is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the Bulldogs. "I'm the coach, president and ball washer," he said with a laugh.
Hunt is confident the Bulldogs have a big season ahead. The club returns to Premier 1 after winning the second-tier premiership in a cakewalk last start.
The Bulldogs completed their trials on Saturday with an impressive win over Powerhouse.
"If the way they played on Saturday is any indication, they'll be looking forward to round one," Hunt said.
The Bulldogs will have a new look with a fresh jersey design when they run out against Box Hill in the season opener this Saturday.
The final team is yet to be determined. An influx of new players, including a number of New Zealand expats and two Japanese imports, make for a tough night at the selection table.
