FOOTSCRAY coach Troy Hunt was livid with the selfishness of his players despite a 60-12 win over bottom-of-the-ladder Monash University in the Victorian Rugby Union second division on Saturday.

The Bulldogs went into the dead rubber game intent on finetuning for the finals but slipped into some of their old habits.

Hunt was seething at the disrespect shown by his players to their opposition in the first half and let them know his feelings in the clubrooms at half-time.

"In the first half

we were just terrible.

"At half-time I had to give them a spray. I told them if this is the way you want to play your rugby, we're not going to go far this year."

The Bulldogs should have been celebrating a rare achievement of going through the season undefeated and on top of the table. Instead, the coaches were asking why their game plan was lost in transport.

"We played most of the game as 15 individuals," Hunt said.

"It was a simple structured plan and we couldn't play to our instructions.

"My objective was to punch it up the middle, recycle the ball a lot quicker so we can get it wide and play an expansive game.

"They were trying to run through the whole team by themselves."

The dissatisfaction is understandable considering they beat the Monash University by 84 points only five weeks earlier.

The Bulldogs failed to use their runners in a better positions and were continually foiled trying to do too much with the ball.

Number8 Tuipine Apineru will remember the game for a hat-trick of tries.

Half-back Josh Ngauamo crossed the try-line twice.

The full-strength Bulldogs will meet an out-of-form Endeavour Hills in the second semi-final on Saturday at Henry Turner Reserve. The winner moves directly into the grand final.
