FOOTSCRAY has turned to Europe and South America to cure its early-season woes in the Hockey Victoria men's state league 2.
The Bulldogs are likely to unveil an Englishman and two Argentines with international experience in time for Saturday's sixth round date with Brunswick at the Brunswick Secondary College.
With the Bulldogs precariously placed in eighth position with one win from five games, the injection of imports could not have come at a better time.
"If you put those three in your top side it has a flow-on effect," team manager Neil Coster said.
"It will boost the whole depth of the club."
The Bulldogs are hurting after a 3-1 loss to irrepressible Southern United at McIvor Reserve on Saturday.
The home side had an abundance of scoring opportunies and could not convert.
Tom Griffin, the Bulldogs only goalscorer, and the Shaws - Haydn and Scott - found it hard to breach United stop-stopper David Hammond.
"The forwards just couldn't score," Coster said. "They're getting a lot of good ball, plenty of opportunities but they're not finishing."
Peter Griffin, Ryan Hopkins and the Wisemans - Mark and Andrew - worked hard on the half-line to create go-forward for the Bulldogs.
"They're moving the ball around a lot better than they ever have before," Coster said.
Too often the Bulldogs goalkeeper Peter Cleave was under siege.
Careless defending at the penalty corners contributed to his side's loss.
"He's been under the pump but he's pulling off some great saves," Coster said. The Bulldogs clash with Brunswick is a must-win as they are sitting uncomfortably three games outside the top-four.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs women's state league 2 team copped a 3-1 loss to Kew with captain Jaimee Skilton the lone scorer for the losing side.
