Five earn Jillaroos world cup call-up

24 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
ALTONA Hockey Club young guns Danielle Schubach and Ashlee Wells are celebrating their selection in the Australian Junior World Cup team, the Jillaroos.

The team is expected to impress at the Junior World Cup to be held in Boston, USA, in August.

It's all happening for Schubach, who is a current member of the Hockeyroos (the Australian senior women's team). The Altona State League 1 midfield star is one of five open-age players named in the 18-member junior squad.

The powerful line-up gives the Jillaroos every chance against fellow hockey powerhouses the Netherlands, Germany and reigning champion Korea.

Schubach progressed through the junior ranks at Altona and has spent most of the season at the Australian Institute of Sport in Perth.

She recently competed for the Hockeyroos in the four nations tournament in South Africa in her first taste of international hockey.

Goalkeeper Wells joined the Altona State League 1 side this season and has had an exceptional season in the net.
