Magic lined up against the Cavaliers missing a number of players out with injury and suspensions, but the reigning champions came out of the blocks firing and scored early through a Slave Bozinovski header.
The home side replied almost instantly through former Scotland under-21 international, striker Gary Wales, who made the scoreline 1-1 at the 30-minute mark.
Magic regained the lead on 41 minutes through forward Tony Saric. Only minutes later, Koce Delev stepped up to score against his former club.
The win could not have come at a better time for Magic, which had two draws and two losses from its first four games.
Captain Pece Siveski says his side can now look forward to many more positive results.
"Green Gully were in the same boat as us leading into the weekend so it was great to get a win," Siveski said.
"They never looked like scoring, really, and we should have scored three or four more goals in the second half."
Despite the win, Siveski was disappointed teammate Mifit Bojku received a red card 15 minutes before the final whistle and that Tony Saric left the field with a shoulder injury.
"It was a silly red card because he kicked the ball away for no reason," Siveski said.
"Tony has had shoulder problems in the past so we're not sure how long he'll be out. It's not good to lose players now, especially as we've had many injury problems since the start of the season."
Next up, Magic faces last season's grand final opponent Dandenong City, which has also endured a difficult start to the season, winning only one match and losing four.
Siveski, well aware that City will be out for revenge, says his side will have to be at its best to get a favourable result.
"We'll be playing at home and hopefully we'll take this week's momentum into the match.
"We have a break this weekend for Easter and maybe we'll get some players back from injury."
