Seagulls perched on top of ladder

29 Apr, 2009 12:10 PM
WILLIAMSTOWN has rocketed into top spot on the Victorian Football League ladder after eclipsing Werribee in torrid conditions at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

Livewire forward Patrick Rose threaded five goals in an outstanding display in the wind as the Seagulls celebrated a crushing 66-point win.

The Western Jets under-18 TAC Cup graduate out-scored the Tigers.

Ruckman Wayde Skipper was dominant as he attempts to force his way into the Western Bulldogs' line-up. The blue and golds set up the win with a splendid display in the first half. They banged on 5.7 to 0.0 with the wind at their backs in the first quarter and then restricted the visitors to 1.3 (to 0.2) in the second.

Coach Brad Gotch was thrilled with his players' commitment. It was a big day for the Gotch family with Brad's son Xavier making his senior debut.

Scoreboard:

Seniors: Williamstown 5.7 5.9 10.15 12.18 (90) d Werribee 0.0 1.3 2.5 3.6 (24).
