Poor kicking, too much chasing cost Bulldogs dearly

29 Apr, 2009 12:10 PM
THE Western Bulldogs can't put the score on the board and it's proving disastrous. Coach Rodney Eade was aghast as the likes of Lindsay Gilbee and Shaun Higgins sprayed deliberate shots early in the high-stakes game against Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Debutant Jarrad Grant hit the post from 25metres in another bad miss. The Blues, on the other hand, were slotting goals from everywhere.

It was a forgettable day for the Bulldogs. In the end, they were run off their feet by young guns such as Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs and lost by 43 points. Tireless midfielder Matthew Boyd battled valiantly and mercurial forward Josh Hill had his moments, but too many players were down on form.

The heat is on as the Bulldogs take on the undefeated St Kilda at Etihad Stadium this Sunday.

Scoreboa rd:

Western Bulldogs 1.6 6.9 10.10 13.12 (90) lt Carlton 4.1 11.3 15.7 21.7 (133). Best: Boyd, Hill, Morris, Higgins, Griffen, Cross. Goals: Johnson 4, Boyd 2, Giansiracusa 2, Higgins, Hahn, Griffen, Hill, Picken.
