NORTH Footscray has big plans for this season.
The club has a fresh approach to football, with two senior coaches taking the reins in the Western Region Football League division two competition.
After just missing the grand final last year, North is looking to make the grade this time. That's the goal as Ross Hedley joins David Battistella as coach.
Battistella believes they can make it work. "Ross has 10 years' experience of coaching and I have six years, so we both know what we're doing.
"We think it will work well as we bring different things to the table.
"Who coaches the side on game day will alternate every week or depend on how we're going."
The club hasn't had many changes in the off-season, losing only a few players from the team that finished third last year.
"We have been able to keep most of them, losing only four or five who may return to the club later in the year," Battistella said.
"Importantly, we have been able to recruit five or six players who we consider will be good footballers."
Battistella thinks the team is a better side than last year with the addition of the recruits.
"We've been a great running side for the past few years but have lacked height around the ground.
"We have recruited some players taller than 6-foot-2, which will help our game plan." With the season beginning on April 10 against Laverton, North Footscray is well prepared.
"We have had a good pre-season with all the guys looking forward to the season," Battistella said.
"Daniel Neville, Duy Ton and Shaun Curtis have been the standouts and will all play key roles.
"We lost our first practice match against Port Arlington, but we think we're on track for another big season."
