TONY Liberatore is the king of Shorten Reserve after West Footscray broke its duck in the Western Region Football League's first division on Saturday.

It was a memorable day for the playing coach and his players as they combined superbly to staved off a determined Glenorden by 20 points in difficult conditions at Shorten Reserve.

Jason King and Sam Thurston kicked three goals apiece.

Best players were Danny Burnett, Alec Young, Andrew Wight, King, Louie D'Ambrosio and Lee Corless.

The pressure was on Liberatore after the side's disastrous fadeout against Sunshine Heights in the previous round.

The Albion Cats are purring with three wins under first-year playing coach Paul Harrison.

Albion outclassed Sunshine Heights by 104 points at Parsons Reserve on Saturday.

Forward Jason Butina kicked five goals and Marc Caruso, Andrew Knezevic and Shaydon Bloomfield three each.

One-time Werribee reserves player Bloomfield and Knezevic starred in the midfield.

Centre half-back Clint Foreman and ruckman James Philpot were among the standouts.

Club president Terry Cooper is thrilled with the dedication of Harrison, a legendary player and coach in the Essendon District Football League.

"'Harro' has fitted in superbly," Cooper said.

It's the opposite for St Albans, twhere the heat is on coach Steven Kolyniuk and his players after three successive losses.

The Saints battled hard in going down to Hoppers Crossing by 29 points at Kings Park Reserve on Saturday.

Gunning for a hat-trick of premierships, Spotswood beat Sunshine by 51 points at McLean Reserve. Luke Molan kicked five goals, while Morgan King kicked six for the Kangaroos.

Port Melbourne Colts cleaned up previously unbeaten Altona by 57 points at Grant Reserve.

In the second division, Parkside full-forward Pat Davis booted nine as the premiership favourite beat the Laverton Magpies by 86 points at the Merv Hughes Oval.

North Footscray edged out Coburg Districts by nine points at Hansen Reserve.

Braybrook outlasted the Wyndhamvale Falcons to win by 12 points at Pennell Reserve.

Yarraville-Seddon went down to Albanvale by 46 points at Yarraville Oval, and Deer Park beat North Sunshine by 102 points at Dempster Park.

Saturday's draw: Division 1: Glenorden v Spotswood, Hoppers Crossing v Albion, Port Melbourne Colts v West Footscray, Sunshine Heights v Altona, Sunshine v St Albans. Division 2: Albanvale v Braybrook, Coburg Districts v Parkside, Deer Park v Yarraville-Seddon, Laverton Magpies v North Sunshine, Wyndhamvale Falcons v North Footscray.
