Fadeout continues Western Jets' indifferent start

31 Mar, 2010 11:44 AM
IT was another case of being competitive but not effective for the Western Jets on Sunday as their poor start to the TAC Cup continued with a 34-point loss to Eastern Ranges at Visy Park.

The Jets started strongly and went into the half-time break with an eight-point lead, but a collapse in the third quarter allowed the Ranges to edge in front and record a comfortable 15.23113 to 12.779 win.

Adam Kennedy and Dylan Conway booted three goals for the Jets.

Club regional manager Shane Sexton said that despite the result, many positives could be drawn from the match. "We were very competitive in three quarters and it was a big improvement on last week. They kicked eight goals in the third term and had 14 shots on goal to two. We just couldn't stop the flow."

Sexton was pleased with the performances of Elliot Kavanagh and Jordan Mead.

He said his side would improve in coming weeks, especially with a number of players set to return from injury.

"Some older players like Josh Huxtable and Justin Morris are still injured and we'll get a lift from these sort of players when they're available. Dylan Conway, who's a state rep, could also give us a bit more even though he kicked a few goals for us. There's definitely room for improvement."
