ALBION Football Club is looking to use a tough pre-season to boost its finals chances in the Western Region Football League division one.
The team finished fourth last year, losing to eventual premier Spotswood.
It has worked hard over the pre-season, including three tough practice matches.
"We went up to Shepparton and played their side then we played EDFL premier Maribyrnong, with our last match against Melton," coach Paul Harrison said.
"All the games were good hitouts; hopefully we'll be ready come round one."
For Harrison, it's not the results that have pleased him the most but the evenness of the side.
"In each game, the best six players have been different. It has been the same on the track, with everyone putting in the hard work. Our younger players have really come on, making the side a lot more even."
Harrison believes off-season signings will make Albion a better team.
"We've signed seven or eight quality players, including some solid midfielders. We lost Justin Lee, Mick Turner and Troy Kelm, but we're hoping the new players can step up. Their addition and the development of the younger players will help us."
After making the finals last year, Albion is looking to finish in the top three and secure the double chance.
"We managed to win our first final but then got knocked out," Harrison said. "This year we have a better side."
