WILLIAMSTOWN Seagulls were unceremoniously dumped by Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west group cellar-dweller Broadmeadows Falcons on their home patch at the Williamstown Cricket Ground in Saturday's penultimate round.
The Seagulls' batting woes were exposed by the competition's worst bowling line-up, ripped apart for just 159.
The Falcons' defence of the total of 213 was never in doubt as a mixture of young and old bowlers combined to cause havoc in the Seagulls' batting.
No.5 Rohan Smith was the most productive of the Seagulls with 44, while wicketkeeper-batsman Brenton Hodges contributed 20 to maintain his solid form.
Skipper Craig Sheedy (18), middle order man Nathan Hall (17) and tail-ender Cain Speakman (15 not out) got starts, but otherwise it was slim pickings for the home team.
The Seagulls' season is not over yet.
Finals might not be a possibility, but local bragging rights will be on offer in their western derby clash with Werribee away at Chirnside Park in a one-dayer on Saturday.
The first ball of this much-anticipated stoush is at 12.30pm.
■ Yarraville Eagles are in freefall.
The boys from the Yarraville Oval slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat to Malvern at home on Saturday. Experienced all-rounder Paul Thomas did his utmost to keep the Eagles in the contest with a century and 6-86 off 35 overs.
But his side's score of 9-229 was usurped by Malvern with two wickets to spare. The Eagles visit lowly Broadmeadows in the final game on Saturday.
