IT'S the final round that will decide the all-important minor premiership in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A1 turf.
Williamstown Imperials, holding the fort in first place, were supposed to come under fire from second-placed West Newport, which is four points back in the standings.
But neither managed to stamp its authority over lower-ranked opponents on the opening day of their respective two-day bouts on Saturday.
The Imps will be feeling better about the situation because top spot is theirs to lose and they have posted a defendable, if not spectacular, 175 against Point Cook, which is 1-12 in reply.
Wests posted a similar score - 174 - against Wyndhamvale, but the Vales have already put up 1-36 in response and will enter the second day as warm favourites.
Much will have to change in the Imps and Wests camps on the second day for any movement to occur at the top of the ladder before finals begin in 10 days.
