VTCA: Woodsmen within reach of modest target

18 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
SPOTSWOOD is within touching distance of victory against struggling local rivals Williamstown CYMS in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division.

The Woodsmen produced a stellar bowling display to have CYs all out for 160 in 68.3 overs at Donald McLean Reserve on Saturday.

Ashley Robertson underlined his status as one of the premier bowlers in the VTCA with a remarkable 4-22 off 20 overs.

Matt Leddin was also in lockdown mode with 2-30 off 18.

The Woodsmen were cruising in their run chase with Karl Turner (23) and Abhijeet Sharma (18) surviving to stumps with the score on 0-47.

The going was tough for Beaumaris and Yarraville Club in their blockbuster at Banksia Reserve.

Ball dominated the bat with 13 wickets falling for just 153 runs and the result in the balance.

Beaumaris was all out for 138, but the hosts hit back late and they have the Clubbers in trouble at 3-15.

The bottom two teams in the north division squared off at Selwyn Park on Saturday.

Altona North and Sunshine United will be pleased with the outcome of the first day.

United posted 174 off 80 overs on a difficult pitch – a score that North would see as attainable.

Footscray United is terribly placed against Strathmore at Scovell Reserve.

The Bulldogs were skittled for 137 in the 44th over and the Mores are are progressing nicely on 2-89.

In north A1, ladder-leading Laverton will fancy its chances of sealing a win over Flemington at Laverton Park.

Flemington could not handle the five-wicket haul from Shaun Delaney and perished for 136 in 50.5 overs.

The Magpies are sailing smoothly on 2-72.
