FOOTSCRAY Edgewater got a first-hand look at the batting capabilities of Prahran in Victorian Premier Cricket, and it wasn't pretty from the combine's point of view.
The Bulldogs have an uphill task of chasing down the Dragons' imposing total of 335 in 98 overs at the Merv Hughes Oval on Saturday.
The Dragons are flying high in second spot on the back of their depth in the batting order.
Their embarrassment of riches was on show for all to see with No.7 batsman James Wild carving out 87 to go with solid contributions from Daniel Salpietro (57) and Liam Murphy (49).
Brad Robertson was outstanding with the ball for the Bulldogs with 5-57 off 21.4 overs. The calibre of players he removed, including the two openers and former Australia Test batsman Chris Rogers, underlines why he's rated one of the top bowlers in the competition.
Left-arm medium pacer Tallan Wright was the other shining light in the Bulldogs' attack.
The son of former Melbourne and North Melbourne VFL star Rodney Wright snared 3-79 off 23.3 overs, including the dismissal of Wild.
Wright, an all-rounder recruited from Essendon, has taken eight wickets in his past two outings to become an integral part of the bowling unit.
The Barry Neivandt-coached Bulldogs will not go down without a fight. The score is clearly not beyond them, having reached 300 on three occasions this season. Opener Dean Russ has found form in recent weeks after a slow start and could be the key. Wicketkeeper Dylan Kight, who posted two centuries and two half-centuries before Christmas, has cooled off and will be champing at the bit to recapture his early-season heroics. Kight has made 453 runs at an average of 50.33.
Play resumes on Saturday at 11am.
