ALTONA A's were eliminated from the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west finals after losing to Melton in a closely fought semi-final match played on Saturday and Sunday at MacPherson Park Oval.
The A's won the morning toss and batted but struggled to get runs on the board early on and were dismissed for a disappointing 188, which Melton overcame with ease, scoring 5-190 on Sunday with four overs to spare.
Aaron Maynard was top-scorer with a solid 53, while leg-spinner Matthew Boglis picked up three wickets.
Coach Mark McAllion said his side lost crucial wickets at the "wrong times".
"We didn't make enough runs on Saturday - I though we were 20 short," McAllion said.
"It was a good pitch, but it was a slow outfield so 188 was worth more than it seemed. We had run-outs when it looked like we were about to do something special with the bat.
"It was very disappointing that we couldn't cap off a good season with a win as we had prepared ourselves to have success in the finals."
Despite the defeat, McAllion remains upbeat and says he's happy with his side's performance.
What's more, he expects the side to go "one step further" next season.
"I thought everyone actually played really well in the match and that we were a bit unlucky at times.
"I think we made a few steps forward this year and we'll definitely have a \red-hot crack next season and we'll have some good young players from the lower grades pushing for spots."
"The club is fantastic and the players are ready for some success in the near future and we should expect to be at the top."
As for his position as coach, McAllion says he will sit down with the club in the next few weeks and sort out his future.
"We agreed at the start of the season that I would be coach for a year and then we'd sit down and see where things are at.
"But I'll most probably be on board and I'm looking forward to working with this great side for another season."
