WRONG place, wrong time. Williamstown Wolves coach Dave Simpson can be accused of taking his eyes off the ball.
In his club's pregame warm-up, Simpson was hit in the back of the scull by an errant pitch from one of his own players.
The former national leaguer went about his business, overseeing the Wolves' 31-6 annihilation of a weary Footscray Bulldogs in the Baseball Victoria Vodafone State League division two.
It was not until Monday that Simpson started feeling the effects of the blow and the doctor ordered him to hospital for a precautionary cat-scan.
"One of our players threw a baseball and it hit me in the back of the head," he said.
"I had a bit of delayed concussion."
At least one headache was alleviated on the weekend.
The Wolves snapped their five-game losing streak in emphatic fashion with a crushing 25-run win over their western suburbs rivals.
Starting pitcher Ryan Camov and relief Jason Lester set up the win for the Wolves.
Lester was equally as impressive at-bat with two hits, a walk and two RBIs.
"He hasn't had a chance to have a bat this year," Simpson said. "It was good to see a smile come back on his face."
Third baseman Chris Mason was also unstoppable going six-from-six.
The Wolves were able to take advantage of the tired Bulldogs team who are winless in 10 their opening 10 games.
The Wolves have a home double-header at Greenwich Reserve in Williamstown.
Tonight, they will be paid a visit by the Waverley Wildcats for a 6pm start and
on Sunday they entertain Preston at
3.30pm.
The Bulldogs have some respite with no mid-week game, but face a difficult test on the road at Waverley on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Newport's trip to Blackburn in division one was rained off to be rescheduled at a later date.
The Darren Malthouse-coached Rams face defending champions Waverley Wildcats at Napier Park in Glen Waverley at 6.15 tonight before Sundays trip to Kooyong Park in Kooyong to face Malvern at 3.30pm.
