THE north-west region of the Athletics Victoria Shield ventured into uncharted territory at the weekend.
Local athletes hit the track and field at the revamped Lakeside Stadium for the first time on Saturday.
There were some eye-catching results for Williamstown Athletics Club members at the picturesque Albert Park venue.
The stand-out performer was undoubtedly Karoline Curtis, who romped to victory in the women's division2, 200m sprint and 400m hurdles.
In the 200m, she hit the line in a time of 28.17 to win by a touch under three seconds.
Khan Marr will also remember the outing for his win in the men's division 3, 200m.
Marr stopped the clock at 23.11 to win by more than a second.
Robert Duckworth was one of only two competitors in both the men's under-20 200m and 800m events and won them in a canter.
Tegan Cockram picked up points for her club as the lone competitor in the women's under-20 200 metres.
Nathan Pearce (2:04.25) held off a strong field in the men's under-16 800m to win by a healthy six seconds.
The men's under-16 4 x 400m relay team came through to beat Western Athletics and Athletics Essendon.
Newport Park, home to Williamstown Athletics, will host the last round of the AV Shield before the Christmas break on December 17.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest events on the AV calendar, the Zatopek:10, Australia's best 10,000m race, will be streamed live via a webcast on athsvic TV on Saturday.
