WILLIAMSTOWN'S Callum Drake will wear the green and gold of Australia at the the 2010 International School Sports Federation world school cross-country championships.
To be held in Slovakia in April next year, only 24 competitors from each country make the trip.
For Drake, a year 11 student at Melbourne Grammar, it was his performance at the recent Australian All Schools cross-country championships that had him secure the sixth and final spot in the team.
His father Colin said: "He finished 20th in the under-18 age group, but not everyone was eligible for selection.
"Out of those available, Callum came sixth and was selected for the team.
"He is very excited to be selected for the trip, as this is the only age group that gets selected."
The trip will not be the first time Drake, 16, has travelled overseas because of his running. "We went to Africa off our own back and were able to train with the Kenyan team."
With the championships still several months away, Drake's focus has yet to turn to the big event.
"He just had the Victorian nationals where he finished second in the under-17 2000 steeple chase and third in the under-17 track 3000 metres," Colin said. "He has the national titles in Hobart in early December and will train up at Falls Creek early next year."
