Williamstown man charged over indecent assaults

30 Sep, 2009 10:03 AM
A MAN faced court late last week over charges relating to a series of indecent assaults on women in Hobsons Bay and the CBD.

Ian Loader, 36, of Williamstown, was arrested and charged last Thursday by detectives at the Altona police station. He faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on

Friday and was remanded in custody to reappear at the same court on a date to be fixed.

Loader was charged with 10 counts of indecent assault and two of wilful and obscene exposure.

The offences were allegedly committed in August and September.

Police said that in each instance, a male, either riding a bike or walking, was alleged to have approached females from behind and attempted to strike up a conversation before touching them inappropriately.

On August 27, a woman was allegedly indecently assaulted by a man on the Esplanade in Williamstown.

On September 13, two women were indecently assaulted in Williamstown.

Two days later, police said, a teenage girl was indecently assaulted by a man near the Market Street car park at Newport railway station.
