Willi steak for crew on a mission

29 Apr, 2009 12:09 PM
A POLISH crew last week arrived in Williamstown from Cape Town, South Africa, during a voyage around the world.

Sailors from the 16.7-metre yacht Nashachata docked at Savages Wharf before coming into town looking for fresh meat.

Williamstown's 'Abalone King' Freddy Glasbrenner said the rugged men came to his restaurant after weeks living off dried rations.

"They arrived [in the] morning, their tongues hanging out for a steak - and they got it.

"They were pretty rough-looking customers.

"They wanted dark beer so I gave them a German wheat beer - and they loved it," he said.

Skipper Henryk Wolski posed with the vessel's good-luck charm - a salt barrel from Krakow in his homeland. The crew set sail for New Caledonia on Monday.
