A PROPOSED a $110million high-rise development on Nelson Place, Williamtown's popular tourist attraction, has had a mixed response from locals.
Long-time resident Maria Black said she was opposed to the idea.
"Williamstown has an old-world charm and character that will be lost if [the development] goes ahead.
"I would vehemently oppose any move by [Hobsons Bay] council to approve such a project.
"Apart from it being an eyesore, we already have problems with excessive traffic and lack of parking in the area, and this would only compound the issue."
Williamstown Chamber of Commerce president and owner of Sam's Boatshed, Tony Napoli, said the development would be good for the area. But he had concerns about the structure and layout and how it would affect the 'urban flow'. "I think it's great for the town, as long as the parking issues are addressed. "From a business point of view, it will bring value to the area and attract more people to Williamstown.
"As long as it doesn't have a negative impact on locals, I think it's good for that end of Williamstown," Mr Napoli said.
