Tanner now uni fellow

01 Sep, 2010 12:00 AM
FORMER Labor member for Melbourne Lindsay Tanner has been appointed the inaugural Vice-Chancellor's Fellow at Victoria University.

The retiring minister for finance will work with researchers in

relevant faculties, research centres and institutes.

He will also provide advice and analysis to the vice-chancellor and the vice-chancellor's senior executives about economic, industry and social issues.

"Victoria University is going to play an increasingly important role in our changing higher education landscape. I am delighted to be able to contribute to VU's development and growth," Mr Tanner said.

The appointment comes just weeks after his seat was sensationally won by Greens candidate Adam Bandt in the federal election. Mr Tanner held the seat for 16 years before Labor's candidate, Cath Bowtell, fell to Bandt, who became his party's first representative in the lower house.
