Spring clean a boon for creek and bay

30 Sep, 2009 10:01 AM
MARIBYRNONG residents have been invited to join a clean-up day at Stony Creek Reserve next month.

They will work with Maribyrnong's Clean and Green Team and Friends of Stony Creek to pick up rubbish before it enters the creek.

Maribyrnong Mayor Michael Clarke said people needed to realise that litter dropped on the street - whether cigarette butts, food wrappers or drink cans - got washed into nearby gutters and ended up polluting waterways and the bay.

Volunteers will meet opposite the West Gate Memorial at Stony Creek Reserve, Hyde Street, Yarraville, at 10am on Saturday, October10. Gloves, bags, tongs and other equipment will be provided and there's a free barbecue afterwards.
