'I love their laughter. When you walk into a room and the kids run up and cuddle you, that's beautiful.' -Vicki WilliamsCHILDCARE worker Vicki Williams came for the children and stayed for the smiles and laughter.
She notched up 25 years at the Saltwater Child Care last week after taking up the job at the centre in Geelong Road, Footscray, in 1987.
Ms Williams says one of the most dramatic shifts during the years has been children going from full-time childcare to part-time, with parents taking turns to look after them during early years and holidays.
"There's been a lot of changes. A lot of new regulations have come in, but I think it's good for the kids. Childcare was for working parents when it first started and often both parents were working and most kids were in full-time care.
"Now, a lot of kids are part-time so you see more children overall coming through the centre." Ms Williams, 52, says she'll keep going as long as she can keep up with the children.
