Shops pitch in to stimulate

29 Apr, 2009 12:07 PM
FOUR traders' groups across Hobsons Bay have united to stimulate the local economy and double four people's $900 Federal Government bonus.

Altona Village Traders Association president Kim Walsh said strip-shopping centres in Altona, Newport, Laverton and Williamstown had joined forces to give people a stimulus to shop locally.

"Anyone who comes into town and spends a total of $900 anywhere in Hobsons Bay, excluding the bigger shopping centres, can go into a draw to win their $900 back," Mr Walsh said.

"Four winners, one from each area, will be drawn out and get their $900 back.

"Small businesses right through Australia are struggling and we see them as the backbone of the communities."

Shoppers over 18 can spend $900 in any retail businesses at any strip-shopping centres around Hobsons Bay.

Receipts can be dropped off, together with the person's contact details, at one of four locations.

The $900 can be spent any time between now and June 30 and people can enter as many times as they like.

The four winners will be drawn at 10am, July 1, at Sam's Boat Shed in Williamstown.

Drop-off points are Altona Gift Gallery, Pier Street; Newport Cellars, Mason Street; Napoli Fruit Shop, Ferguson Street, Williamstown; and IGA supermarket, Aviation Road, Laverton.

Receipts from larger shopping complexes cannot be entered.
