ROBINA Scott Kindergarten in Williamstown is celebrating its 75th birthday in style with a host of activities this week.
The exact date when the kinder opened its doors is unknown, but historical data shows the first kinder committee meeting was held on December 10, 1934.
Robina Scott president Davena Toplis said the centre, from its humble beginnings in the StAndrew's Church Hall, had become one of the largest community kindergartens in Victoria and was now educating 176 children in its three- and four-year-old programs.
Ms Toplis said it was an exciting time for everyone associated with Robina Scott, past and present.
"On Monday, we held an old-fashioned dress-up day and made a banner with all current students' names and hand-prints on it, which we hung on the fence. The front yard was landscaped, the foyer was decorated and a history board [put up] featuring photographs and documents dating back to 1934."
Other activities listed for the week include old-fashioned indoor and outside games and craftwork. Children's band the Mudcakes will play to small groups of children and each day a group will sing happy birthday and cut a cake. All children and staff will get a commemorative 75th anniversary teddy bear complete with the Robina Scott Kindergarten logo.
