DETECTIVES have released images of four people who could provide vital information in relation to a fire at Coles supermarket in Altona Meadows on August 16.
The fire at the Central Square shopping centre store started about 7pm in aisle No.4, which contains cleaning products and solvents.
Damage was estimated at $150,000.
Senior Constable George Kokkoris, of the Altona North crime investigation unit, said a shopper unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the fire with his feet.
"A civilian attempted to put it out but was unsuccessful.
"He alerted staff then got a fire extinguisher himself and gave it
another go, at which time the fire really took hold.
"That activated the internal sprinkler system, which put it out.
"It's estimated that at the time there were 50 to 60 patrons in the store."
Senior Constable Kokkoris said police wanted to speak to four people who could provide valuable assistance.
They are described as:
A man aged 18-25, 180 centimetres tall, slim, with light skin, short black hair, wearing a black and white hooded jacket, black polo top and blue track suit pants with white line along the side.
A woman aged 35-40, 170 centimetres, with short brown curly hair, wearing a long dark jacket, black track pants with white lines down the side, headphones, and carrying a small black umbrella.
A woman aged 18-22, 165 centimetres, with long auburn hair, light skin, dark eyebrows and slim build, wearing a black jacket, mauve scarf, light blue jeans and white runners.
A man aged 18-25, 175 centimetres, solid build, with short blond hair, wearing a black, puffy hooded parka, black baseball cap with white logo on the front, dark top underneath a jacket, and grey cargo pants.
