A 21-YEAR-old Werribee man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle that police say may have been involved in a drive-by shooting at the Altona North McDonald's restaurant two months ago.
The Santiago taskforce, a unit created to curb suburban shootings, seized a stolen Holden sedan last month as part of a separate, ongoing investigation.
Acting Inspector Everett Moutsidis said the car may have been used in the Altona North shooting, where multiple shots were fired at, but missed, two men sitting in a parked car.
"We are investigating whether there is a link between the vehicle and a drive-by shooting at Altona North McDonald's on July 31 this year."
Acting Inspector Moutsidis said the drive-by may have been a "revenge shooting" for the murder of Altona North man, Mohammed Haddara in June.
Police say they will forensically test the car as part of the investigation.
The vehicle was reported stolen on June 4.
The Werribee man was bailed and will appear at Sunshine Magistrates Court on October 20.
Three petrol bombs thrown into the rear of a medical centre on the corner of Blackshaws and Mahons roads, Altona, last Thursday caused little damage, police say.
The premises were empty when a window was smashed, and there was minor damage to the external timber wall.
Neighbours raised the alarm about 9.30pm after hearing an explosion.
