ALTONA'S Millers Inn has emerged as Hobsons Bay's most profitable pokies venue, reaping about $12.7million in 2007-08.
The State Government has released details of pokies expenditure at all Victorian gaming venues under its reform of the electronic gaming industry and the duopoly held by Tatts and Tabcorp.
Three local pokie venues' profits decreased in 2007-08 as compared to 2006-07: Kooringal Golf Club in Altona ($4.16million to $4.05million), Rifle Club Hotel in Williamstown ($4.76million to $4.69mill
ion) and Williamstown RSL ($1.618million to $1.59mill-
ion).
Gaming Minister Tony Robinson said that under the new arrangements, approved hotels and clubs could bid directly for 10-year gaming machine entitlements in early 2010. "For the first time, Victorian pubs and clubs will be given the opportunity to own and operate gaming machines, have greater control over the industry and security and certainty they currently don't have. At the moment, Tatts and Tabcorp determine where machines are located and they can move from venue to venue in search of the most profitable location."
