On your marks for annual Williamstown swim

01 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
PERFECT sunny weather greeted the 350 competitors who took to the water in Williamstown last Thursday morning for the 22nd annual Australia Day Swim.

The event included 1-kilometre and 2-kilometre swims and a corporate challenge, with competitors ranging in age from 12 to over 60s, while for the juniors there were 250- and 500-metre races.

Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club spokesman Kane Treloar said the club hoped $9000 would be raised for training, rescue equipment and educational resources to help keep the beach safe.

"It costs $200-$300 to train each lifesaver we put on the beach," he said.

"Some people have taken part in all 22 swims, so we're extremely grateful for their continued support."

Weekly photographer Marco De Luca was there to capture all the day's action.
