EMPLOYEES at a Laverton-based company fear for their future with the reintroduction of a bill in Parliament on Monday to make the 70per cent tax hike on alcopops permanent.

Labor says the move will address binge drinking among young people.

But workers at Independent Distillers disagree, saying the tax is nothing more that a 'grab for cash' by the Government.

They accuse Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard of giving more importance to an overseas trip instead of helping them save their jobs.

Ms Gillard, Lalor MP, has agreed to meet staff in three weeks to discuss the potential closure of their factory should the tax become permanent.
