IF you're having problems dealing with Centrelink, a new book by an Altona Meadows solicitor could help you negotiate the maze of benefits and regulations.
Dezi George says she wrote How to Deal With Centrelink to ensure that jobseekers, students, carers and people with a disability receive their full entitlements.
"I have assisted many people and I know the steps to take to ensure Centrelink meets its obligations to people on a benefit or payment.
"If they follow some simple steps, they will obtain their full benefits or entitlements."
Ms George detailed the case of a young woman who worked part-time and received a Newstart allowance.
She applied for Austudy and was told by Centrelink it would cancel her Newstart allowance because she would be receiving Austudy payments.
However, Centrelink later told her she would not be paid all her allowance because she had not looked for work during a particular fortnight. Ms George said she had sought clarification from Centrelink and found the decision to be incorrect.
"Given the payment was [cancelled], she was not required to report to Centrelink or to seek employment.
"She was successful and is now receiving her full entitlements."
