AT 9.30pm on January 2, Nitin Garg walked off a train at Yarraville station to head to work at nearby Hungry Jack's.
Police believe the 21-year-old Newport resident headed towards busy Williamstown Road. He was stabbed to death in Cruickshank Park.
At 9.30pm last Saturday, homicide detectives and an Indian man dressed the same as Mr Garg re-enacted his last movements.
Police are hoping the re-enactment will jog the memory of locals who may have seen Mr Garg on the night he was killed.
The station platform was busy with people heading into the city.
Recording police in the reconstruction of Mr Garg's probable journey to Hungry Jack's in West Footscray were numerous media outlets, including international television station Al-Jazeera.
Across the road from the fast food outlet, where Mr Garg was a manager, police manned an information caravan.
Closed-circuit television footage of Mr Garg arriving at Yarraville station on the night of his murder was also released. It showed him wearing a black-and-white- striped hooded jumper.
"We are hoping this helps jog someone's memory of any information from that night," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Snare said.
"Anyone who may have seen [Mr Garg] or been in the park from about 9.30-10 on that night, we are asking to come forward even if you think your information may be minor.
"Someone in the community knows who committed this horrendous crime."
