MELBOURNE Cup champion Subzero warmed the hearts of Altona Kindergarten children during his visit on Thursday.
The 21-year-old, who won the Cup in 1992, was a big hit and delighted the youngsters with his affable behaviour.
Kindergarten manager Sue Johnson said about 26 children gathered to greet the horse.
"They followed his every step from the moment he arrived. One of the children described him as a lovely big white horse," Ms Johnson said.
"He proved to be very smart too and clearly understood questions put to him by the children.
"They asked him if he liked hay and he nodded. Someone brought him a carrot and asked if he like carrots; again he nodded.
"We thoroughly enjoyed having Subzero visit us. I hope he can come back again next year."
Subzero was escorted by his owner Graham Salisbury and Racing Victoria education officer Leah Hyland.
