I'VE been principal of the school since it began in 2000. As ESL (English as second language) practitioners in the western region, many of us dreamed of being able to support newly arrived children wherever they settled. All newcomers to a country need a period to adjust to new ways.
Although coming to Australia is an exciting new phase in our children's lives there is also much sadness in leaving family members and friends behind. They also have to learn the culture of new schools - how to learn as well as the learning itself, and how to interact with others. All this and they need to learn the new language. Students often get the extra responsibility of interpreting for their parents in the new country. Being the principal of an English language school - we have 56 nationalities learning English - is the most rewarding job. I am privileged to see our students engaging in learning, some for the first time, and with support from our wonderful teachers, seeing their world expanding.
