Maribyrnong Mayor offers olive branch in boycott row

20 Jul, 2011 12:00 AM
MARIBYRNONG mayor Sarah Carter will meet Gathering Place's chief executive soon to try to repair the fractured relationship with the organisation following the NAIDOC Week boycott.

A disagreement about the personnel involved in the flag-raising ceremony resulted in a no-show from the indigenous health service and the withdrawal of its chief executive Colleen Marion, who was scheduled to give a keynote address.

Cr Carter blamed a breakdown in communication for the boycott. "I wasn't aware that they weren't attending until it was too late."

She said it was important for the two sides to be on the same page as Maribyrnong was to host the coming indigenous justice forum.
