WESTGATE Sports and Leisure Centre will run a free two-month fitness program for overweight men and women in a bid to tackle Australia's growing obesity problem.
Under the program, which is designed for men weighing more than 120 kilograms and women over 100 kilograms, participants will have access to the centre's gym facilities and fitness classes. They will also have access to a dietician and a personal trainer.
Trevor Kneebone, who runs the Altona North-based centre, says participants will enjoy the program and gain confidence to work out alongside other gym goers.
"A lot of people watch The Biggest Loser show and think they'll get yelled
at if they go to a gym," Mr Kneebone
said.
"We'll build them up slowly and get them to be self-sufficient so they can work out as hard as they want."
Mr Kneebone expects participants could lose up to five kilograms in the first few weeks of the program.
"Just by eating healthy and doing some light exercise they'll begin to lose weight," he said.
"We want them to come in at least twice a week initially, but hopefully they'll come in more and more when they see great results."
The program begins this Sunday. People wanting to attend can book ar place by calling 93696622.
