MIDDLE Footscray residents whose homes and businesses will be demolished for a regional rail project took their demands for a "fair go" to State Parliament yesterday.
Twenty-six homes and 84 business on Buckley and nearby streets will be demolished or partly acquired to fit two new tracks for the $4.5billion regional rail link.
Fed up with what they have called a shambolic planning process, a group of residents yesterday boarded a train bound for Parliament with their catalogue of concerns and questions under a banner that read 'Fair-go for Footscray Rail Residents'.
In a joint letter last week to Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula signed by 56 people, residents asked for a meeting to "clear up" specific concerns.
"We have a local church hall available as a suitable venue for this meeting and we will organise an independent professional facilitator to lead the session," the letter read.
They want the meeting no later than August 9 so affected residents and businesses can prepare submissions on the rail link project before the August 18 deadline.
The letter made it clear to Mr Pakula that residents and traders were acting independently of any political party.
