Lessons in sacrifice

24 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
PUPILS from St Monica's Primary School got to know their history at a Refugee Week ceremony last week.

The pupils joined members of the Vietnamese community at the Vietnamese Boat People Monument of Gratitude in Jensen Reserve in Footscray.

Librarian Maggie Catterall said the pupils had been studying the reasons why people risked their lives by fleeing their homes in times of war.

"This generation need to know the sacrifices their parents and grandparents made to come to Australia."
