ONE of Australia's most prolific and widely read authors is coming to the Williamstown Literary Festival at the behest of a local high school student.
John Marsden's appearance follows an appeal from Williamstown High School's Sammy Bigley, who wrote to him in the hope he would attend.
Sammy attends the school's Bayview campus and is on the festival's youth events committee.
"We needed to contact authors so that we could arrange speakers at the festival," he said.
"I offered to contact John Marsden and invite him to participate because I've read and enjoyed so many of his books and so have many students at this school.
"The year7s are reading So Much to Tell You in class this year.
"I felt so excited when John replied to say that he would be part of the festival. I couldn't believe that one of my favourite authors was coming to my home town."
Marsden will present 32 ways of looking at writing at the Williamstown Town Hall on May 2 at 4pm.
