Cultural melting pot a feast for the senses

30 Jun, 2010 12:00 AM
MARIBYRNONG residents have indulged at a free culinary event in Footscray.

Last Friday, they were given the opportunity to sample a range of international cuisines while enjoying cultural dance and music performances at an event to cap off Refugee Week.

Western Region Health Centre health promotions planner Clare Tran said it had been an exciting venture.

"The day showcased food and arts from different cultures within Maribyrnong, and some of the foods we had were from the Congolese community, from Vietnam, India, Africa and the Middle East."

Performances from a Congolese band, Spanish singer and krumpers Legacy Fam kept people entertained.

Arts and crafts were also on display, thanks to the work of a group of Sudanese women.

The venture was organised by the Maribyrnong Refugee Week organising committee, comprising a range of service providers.

Funding was allocated by the Victorian Multicultural Commission.
