MORE than 1.5million people have experienced the first digital planetarium in the southern hemisphere at Scienceworks in Spotswood, with sell-out shows wrapping up the Discover the Night Sky series.
The series offers a galactic trip on a 16-metre domed ceiling, followed by a live presentation of that night's sky.
Planetarium programmer Martin Bush said this month's series had been an astronomical success.
"We get great numbers each night
and as word spreads about the shows our final session is always full to capacity.
"It gives the opportunity to have a friendly, even romantic, evening under the stars in the comfort and warmth
of indoors, safe from Melbourne's winter.
"We won't be running the program again until next year, so keep an eye out on the website and make sure you get in early.
"In the meantime, if you feel the hankering for a planetarium experience, we are running daily screenings of our international award-winning show Our Living Climate, which explores the way in which our world has evolved."
Written by Mr Bush, it won an award of excellence at the Fulldome Festival in Jena, Germany.
