BRAYBROOK and Maidstone residents will be able to access the internet a lot easier, with the Braybrook and Maidstone Neighbourhood Centre set to receive nine new computers.
The computers, issued under the Brumby government's public internet access program, will provide high-speed internet for the next two years.
"This funding will enable our organisation to provide [at the centre] free or affordable public internet access in our community," Vivienne Conn, co-ordinator at the Braybrook and Maidstone Neighbourhood House, said.
"In particular, this will assist those people and groups who have difficulty accessing and using the internet.
"Not only can local people log on every day between 10am and 4pm, they can also learn from the team of volunteers about the opportunities the internet can provide them."
Community Development Minister Lily D'Ambrosio said the new computers would help address the disadvantages people faced in the western suburbs.
"The state government understands that the internet provides a vast range
of opportunities for people, which is why we are partnering with the neighbourhood house to get more people online.
"This project will encourage residents of Braybrook and Maidstone to access online educational classes, keep in contact with friends and family, or organise their finances with the support of the staff and volunteers at the house."
