Art of the photocopier

26 Jan, 2011 12:00 AM
CURSING the office photocopier is a rite-of-passage for many, but emerging Yarraville artist Maja Wolnik, pictured, has learnt to embrace the technology for her first solo exhibition Echoes of Nature.

Ms Wolnik's initial inspiration for many of the 32 works on show came from simple illustrations but, with the use of a photocopier, these "intricate patterns of nature" became something else entirely.

"I'm very interested in printmaking and I really enjoy that form of repetition, so playing around with a copier gives me an endless range of possibilities.

"The original inspiration can be altered into something completely different."

The exhibition, at Off the Kerb Gallery in Collingwood, from February 4-25, has been almost a year in the making and features black and white works.
