AN Altona man is continuing his search to find the owner of a wedding ring he and his wife found about 50 years ago.
John Simpson and his wife, Marlene, who died in 2000, found a woman's wedding ring while walking along a Sydney beach in the 1960s.
"We used to spend a bit of time up north and one day [we] were taking a stroll, I think it was Brighton beach, and we saw this ring in the sand," Mr Simpson said.
"A lot of people from Melbourne used to go to Sydney for holidays back then, so it's possible the owners could be from here.
"We tried many avenues to find out [the owner]; we even contacted Michael Schildberger at Channel 9 when he used to do news, but he wasn't interested.
"Time went by and we forgot we had it until now.
"My daughters came over to do a bit of a clean-up last week and while they were sorting out some jewellery, they found the ring."
Mr Simpson said the ring was inscribed and next month will be the couple's 55th anniversary.
"There's an inscription inside which reads, 'Joan and Jack 1955', it would be wonderful it we could get it back to its rightful owners."
